What is prayer?
Prayer is simply a conversation with God — a real, open, personal dialogue with the one who created you, loves you, and desires to be personally involved in your life.
There is no wrong way to begin. A simple “Hello God, who are you?” is enough. Prayer does not require polished words or certainty — it is the beginning of a relationship, not a performance.
First and foremost:
I want you to know that you are so valuable in the sight of God. You have infinite value placed on you, as God’s beloved child that was created in His image.
God loves every single one of us, no matter who we are, or what we have done. And nothing can separate us from Him, except our own selves.
We could choose to stay away and suffer, or we could invite Him in and begin living a life with Him, in comfort, love, and care.
Why Pray At All?
God cares very deeply about everything going on in our lives. And He wants to hear about it — from us!
That is where prayer comes in. It is plainly, a conversation with God. It doesn’t have to meet any kind of standard, or be a memorized smattering of words. It is also not limited to requests. It is a genuine flow of anything we would like to say to Him. God cares about it all.
Who do we pray to?
We pray to one God.
The God who knows your name, your pain, and your purpose.
The God who separated from Himself a son, Jesus, who was sent to live on earth to suffer as we do - so that He may understand us perfectly.
We pray to a God who deems us worthy of His everlasting love - a God who wants to help us live our best lives.
Our God is available to us 100% of the time. There is no leaving a voicemail, or waiting in line. Just begin speaking to Him, aloud or silently, and He will listen attentively.
As you begin to let Him into your life, prayer will connect you further and deeper, and help you get to know Him more and more - which is God’s delight, as we are His children.
What Does Prayer Do?
When you lay everything on the table for God, He begins working on changing things to work in your favor.
God already sees you and what you are going through without you telling Him. Your struggles, circumstances, thoughts, fears, limitations. He knows it all. And He cares. All you have to do, is invite Him into your life in order to see all that He is willing to do for you specifically.
God will lead you as long as you follow Him. God will answer if only you ask Him. God will provide everything that you need. And no one at all can get in God’s way.
How Does God Respond?
Understand that His responses may not come in audible words, but through subtle signs and guidance.
You may notice His presence through unexpectedly acquired knowledge, or the timely alignment of events that echo your prayers. God often responds in ironic ways — giving you exactly what you asked for, though not in the form you expected. The result is personal and fitting, and clearly not the product of your own design, coincidence, or luck.
God’s guidance will always align with the truth of the Holy Bible, for it is His Word, and He will not contradict Himself.
For many, the reality of God becomes evident through the relationship itself, as you learn to recognize God’s voice and see how He shows up.
How to Pray?
The first step in prayer is honesty. God already knows your heart, but He wants you to bring it to Him freely. Speak as if you were talking with a close friend — because you are.
Share your joys, hopes, and dreams.
Pour out your sorrows, fears, and struggles.
Ask Him for help, wisdom, and peace.
Thank Him for what He has already done.
Prayer is not one-sided. As you speak, God responds — sometimes not in audible words, but through scripture, wisdom, dreams, and even the way events align. Stay attuned to His presence, because He delights to show you He is near.
